METHANE
Methane gas can occur naturally in water wells and when it does, it presents a unique problems.
The major concern relates to flammable and explosive hazards associated with methane gas.
Methane is a colorless, odorless gas and has an explosive limit between 5 to15 percent by volume in air.
The use of aeration and activated carbon filters should remove any gas which may enter the distribution system. Considerable care should be taken because of the explosion hazard present whenever work is done on a well that produces gas.
