Water Softeners
This technology uses a resin bed designed to hold sodium ions in suspension. As water finds its way through the resin bed calcium and magnesium ions in the water are replaced by sodium or potassium ions. As this process occurs the resin bed eventually becomes saturated with contaminants and must be recharged (backwashing).
SOFTENING (ION EXCHANGE) IS NOT A TREATMENT DESIGNED TO PURIFY WATER FOR DRINKING. IT DOES NOT REMOVE DANGEROUS ORGANIC CHEMICALS, MOST HEAVY METALS OR BIOLOGICAL ORGANISMS THAT MIGHT CONTAMINATE WATER.
Why do I need a Water Softener?
